Where we’re going
In 2023, the North Florida Sewing Center, a 501c3 was created.
Many of the lead team have a background in scouting so we wanted to use our scraps and other resources wisely, be conservation minded by not sending fabriuc scraps to the landwill and make items that we can distribute in our communities. We sometimes receive donations of fabric that can be used for some of items, so we turn that fabric into animal beds, that are then filled with the tinest scraps. Larger pieces of cotton and flannel were lovingly made into quilts that were dionated to Grace Marketplace, a center for the homeless. More quilts and other projects followed quickly.
We love to share our sewing and crafting skills with our community. We are asked many times, “we need, can you”? The answers is usually yes, given enough time. We have provided Angel wraps for babies born too soon to both Shands and North Florida Maternity wards; microwave heating pads to be distributed through UF Shands to patients who have been diagnosed with sickle cell disease; We made fidget mats (adult busy boxes) for patients with dementia. Mastectomy pillows and prot pilows for those diagnosed with cancer.
We are always looking for ways to help. If you have a project you would like us to consider, please email us at nfsewingcenter@gmail.com.
We have become ‘More than the pad’.
