Presentations

We are happy to give presentations to all sorts of groups about the good work we are doing at North Florida Sewing Center.  We can talk about a variety of relevant topics to adults, seniors, and youth.  We can show a PowerPoint presentation and/or offer a hands-on service experience.   Your group can come to our sewing center or one of our satellite locations or we can go to you.

We are also happy to table at busy events so we can talk to lots of people about our reusable pads, quilt-making, other projects, and volunteering.  Often our pads are sponsored so they can be distributed without cost to the people we meet.  We are especially eager to do this in places where the visitors to the event are likely to be low income (free food or backpack distributions, college students, events for homeless, etc).   We are also invited to events that are promoting sustainability and/or health.

Our presentations can be offered in English or Spanish.

To schedule an inspirational presentation, please email nfsewingcenter@gmail.com.

Some examples of presentations:

·      Overview of the Current Work Done by North Florida Sewing Center Volunteers

·      The Journey of How we got Started and Where North Florida Sewing Center is Heading

·      Hands-On Opportunity for your group at North Florida Sewing Center or at your location includes

a brief overview of our work)

·      Presentations for Children and Teens (grades 6-12) with emphasis on menstruation and puberty

·       Senior Ladies presentation emphasizes information about incontinence

Our presentations usually include an option to try our washable pads (for menstruation, incontinence, post-partum, etc).  This is based on whether or not we have sponsored pads to give out at no cost.

Examples of Groups:

·        Places of Worship

·        Service Groups and Clubs

·        Sororities or Fraternities

·        Student Groups

·        Sustainability Events

·        Volunteer Fairs

·        Community Yard Sales

·        Shelters (homeless, domestic violence)

·        Assisted Living or Senior Centers

·        Youth Programs

Another option that is available to nonprofit or government groups, is that they can request up to 20 of our sample bags which contain one holder and two inserts along with instructions on how to use the washable pads.  These are given out  for free by our partners to encourage their participants to try reusable items to save money, reduce trash, increase comfort, and increase peace of mind.  The sample bags invite the participants to reach out to North Florida Sewing Center if they wish to receive a full set or menstrual cup, volunteer or try some of our classes.

To request the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to fill out to receive these samples, email nfsewingcenter@gmail.com

Where We Got Our Start

If you are interested in how this project started with a Girl Scout Journey in 2013 and how we wound up impacting people around the world, please watch Radha’s video recorded in 2019.  We are no longer affiliated with Days for Girls International but the story is quite inspiring.
