With the volume of quilts and pads made at the Center, we realized that sewing center was producing quite an amount of tiny scraps that couldn't be used for other purposes. We love our donors, and sometimes we receive fabrics that are not suitable for pads, bags, or quilts.  One of our interns suggested we use the scraps and the heavy fabrics to make animal beds. This would keep the scraps out of the landfill and provide a comfortable resting place for our beloved pets or other animals. And Voila! Companion beds.                                          

We initially thought we could donate them to our local animal shelters so the cats and dogs would have something of their own when they went to their forever homes. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. These animals are stressed and sometimes tear, dig, or otherwise destroy the beds. Our wonderful shelter staff did not need another mess to clean up. We have donated beds to the Santa Fe College Zoo for some of their animals.

We have beds in various sizes. Beds are free for the asking. Come by the center and pick one up for your favorite pet.
