In 2019 we realized that our sewing center was producing an awful lot of scraps.                                                                                                             Simultaneously, we received fabric donations that were too heavy to use for the menstrual pads or drawstring bags.
We started making beds for companion animals using the heavier fabrics and filling them with our little bits of fabric.   This rescued a lot of fabric and scraps from going to the landfills.
These beds for companion animals are given out freely to anyone that can use them.  Unfortunately they didn’t work out well for animals in shelters who are so stressed they tear up the beds.  You can imagine what a mess this was to clean up!
But for people that have cats and (calm) dogs in their families, these beds are a comfy and ecological way to utilize our scraps and make everyone happy.
Our primary means to distribute these beds is at Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary where we table with our pads twice a year and GRACE Marketplace which is a pet friendly shelter for unhoused adults.  We also give out the animal beds at church “pet blessing” events and to our volunteers.
If you can use one, please stop by and ask to see what we have available.  We produce 10-20 animal beds each month from our scraps.
