Donate Machines

The North Florida Sewing Center has a dozen sewing machines and sergers set up and ready to use for anyone that stops in to volunteer.  But we also have extra machines to lend to interns and members wishing to work at home on sewing center projects.  We keep sewing machines at GRACE Marketplace to use when we do our monthly Mending Day visit.  And we have sewing machines at SWAG Resource Center so we can use them to give sewing classes once a month to residents there.   Having extra machines means we can hold large group classes when needed, like the beginner sewing machine class we teach in Spanish and typically have 15 people at a time attending.

We love receiving donated machines as it means we can do more and engage more people in sewing.  We are incredibly fortunate to have Sharon Harrett volunteering with us as she is able to lead a crew of competent sewists in cleaning and maintaining our fleet of machines.

Sometimes people donate machines that aren’t working.  We trust Sharon to figure out how to fix them or to determine if the broken machine is only good for parts.  Often machines just need some cleaning, oil, and a small replacement part to be able to function well again.

Sometimes we receive donations of machines that are not suitable for the kind of work we do at North Florida Sewing Center.  They could be too high tech or fancy or they may be antiques.  When that happens, Sharon cleans them up and sells them for us.  Proceeds from these sales support our good work so it is a win-win for everyone.

If you wish to donate a sewing machine or serger to us, please drop it off at the center or contact nfsewingcenter@gmail.com

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT!
